Peter Smallwood
Peter has over 25 years’ experience as a VAT consultant in the profession. Prior to this he worked as a Senior VAT Officer at what is now HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC). Rachel Davies
Rachel Davies began her working life in the legal profession. She moved on and over 20 years ago began working with the VAT group at Deloitte. Rachel was instrumental in setting up Solve VAT in 2002 and almost the first matter she worked on was what ultimately turned out to be a successful appeal on behalf of a client to the High Court from what was then the VAT and Duties Tribunal.

Problems that our VAT specialists can help you with
Our VAT specialists provide VAT consultancy advice that can lead to the withdrawal of a VAT penalty. In some cases, it might be possible to have a VAT penalty reduced or suspended.
Unfortunately, businesses can find themselves in a position of conflict with HMRC. Such difficulties are increased by the potential of a VAT penalty in almost any given situation. Our team of VAT specialists area ideally placed to offer you VAT advice with a view to attempting to successfully reduce the amount of tax or penalty that may initially be sought by HMRC.
VAT registered entities that make both taxable and VAT exempt supplies are referred to as being “partly exempt” for VAT purposes which could mean that they can only reclaim a proportion of the VAT that they incur on expenditure ie the input tax you can recover. An entity that makes VAT exempt supplies should consider which VAT partial exemption method is most appropriate. Our VAT specialists have vast experience in assisting entities that are partially exempt.
Some of the Sectors we help with
